The Majestic Theatre, opened as a vaudeville venue circa 1910 but was soon renamed the Empress Theatre by the owners, the Sullivan & Considine vaudeville circuit. As a vaudeville performer Charles Chaplin and Fred Karno’s London Company vaudeville troupe played three separate week-long engagements at the Empress in May and October 1911, and the first week of April 1912.
The theatre was renamed the Palace Hippodrome Theatre at sometime in the early 1910s was was known by Seattle local as the Palace Hip. At sometime in the 1910s, the theatre began showing motion pictures. The venue was sold to Marcus Loew in 1914 and the theatre was then known as Loew’s Palace Hip.
